A NEWPORT environmental company is urging locals to go green and recycle their old TVs.
Earlier this year, FootPrintMatters2u launched a scheme to collect TVs from older and housebound residents and it was so successful, the company is rolling the scheme out across the city.
The company recycled more than 400 TVs and monitors during its April campaign and is hoping to continue that success with many residents upgrading their TVs following the digital switchover and the ongoing World Cup.
Tim Hourahine, FootPrintMatters2u technical sales director, said: “Don’t leave your old TV gathering dust in the garden shed, spare room or loft. Give it a new lease of life, it can be recycled and end up as a new product.
“With the change-over to digital television and the start of the World Cup, anyone who has changed their TV will be able to recycle their old set by calling us to collect or by taking it for recycling at the city’s civic amenity site.”
FootPrintMatters2u runs a doorstep collection service and then takes the TVs to a recycling plant in the UK to be specially treated to safely remove all hazardous materials and any other materials can be reused.
