Stormwater is everyone’s responsibility. You can help to keep our waterways clean by following these simple steps.

Bin your rubbish
  • Properly dispose of your waste and rubbish, including cigarette butts and place in rubbish bins
  • Make sure litter cannot blow or fall out of bins
Wash your car on grass
  • Wash your car on the grass
Mulch clippings and leaves
  • Regularly sweep up leaves, dirt and rubbish from your driveways and gutters
  • Help keep street gutters and drain entrances clear of leaves by starting a compost heap or using leaves as garden mulch
Scoop up pet droppings
  • Pick up your pet’s droppings and dispose of them in the bin
Properly dispose household chemicals, pesticides, paint and motor oil
  • Never dispose household chemicals, pesticides, paints and oils down the drain or sink
  • Dispose of household products the correct way – check with your local council or the Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water for the details of chemical collection and disposal in your area
  • Keep your vehicle well-maintained so it does not leak oil or petrol
Protect waterways during landscaping and construction
  • Make sure soil and sand stockpiles do not cover street gutters
  • Protect stockpiles from wind and rain by storing under secured plastic sheeting or tarpaulins
  • Schedule grading and excavation projects during dry weather
