Disney adds Forest Protection to its Environmental Goals and Targets.

Disney says it will spend seven million US dollars (£4.3 million) in partnership with three conservation groups to protect tens of thousands of acres of forest in the Congo basin, the Amazon basin and two regions of the US.

The projects announced on Tuesday are designed to work with local communities to either plant trees or set aside forest lands for protection against logging.

In partnership with Conservation International, Disney is providing 4 million dollars (£2.4 million) for forest protection projects at two reserves in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and for a forest program in the Amazon basin area of Peru.

In March, Disney released a gargantuan set of environmental goals and targets  the first such “comprehensive corporate responsibility report and Disney Channel is halfway through a yearlong campaign called Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green to inform kids about environmental causes.

The Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green initiative invites young people to join together to help the environment across four critical key areas: climate, water, waste and habitats. Kids will learn practical ways to preserve the planet, track their collective impact and have the opportunity to vote on how $1 million in donations from Disney will be divided and invested in various environmental causes over the course of a year in its initiative to help save the planet.

In April, the company planted 2.7 million trees in the Brazilian Atlantic rain forest in connection with a ticket-buying promotion for its “Earth” documentary.
