One might think that a theme park of all places would be one of the least environmentally-friendly locations on the planet. Environmentaland, the world’s first eco theme park, has just opened in Los Angeles. It is created by Global Inheritance, a “green” activist group known for its innovative ways to engage kids in environmental action.

Environmentaland represents the power of imagination combined with common sense and a desire for change. Located in the heart of Hollywood on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, Environmentaland is only a few steps away from a major subway stop, bus terminal, and the 101/134 Freeways.

Environmentaland has something for everyone with programming targeting kids, adults, students, artists, professionals, tourists, teachers and even your pets.

Environmentaland eco theme park is said to feature “Energy Playground, Recycled Paper Plane Takeoff, Mini-Bin Exhibit and Designing Station, Alternative Energy Golf Carts, The Planetarium, Desert Mini Golf + more.” Environmentaland will be featuring a series of events, including Bigger Picture Movie Nights, art shows, and some solar powered music

Global inheritance will be asking friends in LA and beyond to join them at the Hollywood & Highland as they host rides, interactive exhibits, demonstrations, Q&A sessions, spin & shake classes, movie screenings, an energy playground, recycling drives, live music, screen printing, Energy Battle Royals, and other exciting programs.

From August 16 to the 22, Environmentaland will be hosting a ‘Butthugger Fashion Week.’ Unlike many fashion events you may have attended or heard of, this will feature a clothing drive as well as a unique designer challenge. Within 48 hours, designers must create original looks only from the recycled clothing that has been donated. Participants will be able to compete for prizes in a fashion show that follows. If you’d like to take part, email jenna@globalinheritance.org

On August 19, if you’re in the area stop by for a screening of the new film, Earth Days, from 7 to 9 PM. The movie will chronicle the history of environmental activism throughout the 20th century. The special Environmentaland screening will also feature a question and answer session with the film’s director, Robert Stone, following the show.

As an added perk – and a strong hint toward sustainable travel – visitors who travel to the park via public transport pay no admission. (Students also get in free.)

Other parks are now feeling the heat when it comes to being eco-friendly. Rumour is that Knott’s Berry Farm now features a bike rack.
